Lodge Details

The Stillwater River Outpost is everything a fishing lodge should be. Located outside of Absorkee, Montana the lodge combines, excellent food, comfortable accommodations, great fishing, and ample privacy. The lodge offers all inclusive fishing packages serving as the idyllic basecamp for a Montana fishing adventure. This lodge is the true embodiment of  a Montana fishing lodge. The lodge is situated on 1/2 mile of private Stillwater River Frontage to the north. To the west Granite Peak, the state’s highest point, looms over head, and to the east the Great Plains stretch indefinitely.

Stillwater River Outpost Fishing

The SRO provides an ideal base of operations to explore many of Montana’s lessor known rivers, as well as some of its iconic trout streams, like the Yellowstone. The Stillwater River serves as the center piece of the fishing operation. The Stillwater produces some of the best dry fly fishing in Montana every year, particularly in the late summer when the terrestrials become ever important to the fish that loom below. We are also a short drive from the productive Boulder River. For anglers seeking to stretch their legs there are a number of secluded small streams that can be accessed from the lodge located on sprawling cattle ranches.

Accommodations

The SRO offers plush accommodations molded after iconic fishing lodges dotted across the west. Each of the 3 guest rooms in the Campbell House are replete with two twin extra long beds and their own private bathroom. One additional guest room is a standalone cabin just feet from the river. It too has two twin extra long beds and its own bathroom facility.

For those looking for something a little more unique, we offer the luxurious Riverside Wall Tents. Each tent comes with everything one expects and then some: including plush beds, electricity, private bath and a deck with a beautiful view of the Stillwater River.

Ample outdoor seating is scattered around the property allowing guests to take in the river and uninterrupted Montana beauty from somewhere different each night. For the multi-sport guest we have a driving range that extends 300 yards and is situated right next to the clubhouse where guests can find a full bar and their meals while staying with us.

Dining at the Stillwater River Outpost

Food is one of the very few controllable elements on any fishing trip, thus making it a highly important component of any lodge. The SRO boats one of the best chefs to feed southern Montana, Chef Hans Friedmann. Han’s cuisine is always a crowd pleaser and focusses heavily on ingredients sourced from right here in Montana. His network of producers and ability to pair flavors produces dinners that often compete with our guests favorite restaurants at home.Hans had the opportunity to cook at the famed James Beard House in New York City. In 2008, he received a Grand Champion award in Stonewall Resort’s Cast Iron Cook Off competing against fourteen teams from three states in the regional area. This young award-winning chef is a joy to watch in the kitchen; at first sight his energy and passion are truly obvious.

Getting to the Lodge

Getting to the lodge can be handled via car rental, or we can arrange a round trip shuttle. Once you’re at the lodge you won’t need to drive, but some guests do enjoy the flexibility of a car. Shuttles typically run $500 round trip. Getting to the lodge can be done through either the Bozeman (BZN) or Billings (BIL) Airports. Flying into Bozeman will require an extra 30 minutes of windshield time, however, the flights in and out of Bozeman are simply incredible with direct flights from nearly every major city in the summer.
